The Charity Auction of a codfish and a bottle of olive oil is happening until 15 January 2025, here. As a result, the raised funds will contribute to supporting a pre-selected family left homeless by the fires in Aveiro.

The initiative, organised by LEILOSOC®, is carried out in partnership with two renowned entities. So, in the codfish industry, the “Sr. Bacalhau” brand, and in the olive oil sector, Ourogal.

The auctioned products stand out for their quality and exclusivity, as can be seen on the charity auction pages. In fact, one of the largest “Sr. Bacalhau” from the 2024 harvest, weighing approximately 8kg, is up for bidding. The fish, split with its head intact, comes from Norway and can be bid on here. To complement this delicacy, you can also bid here for a magnum bottle (1500ml) of Ourogal Centenarium olive oil.

The Codfish

“Sr. Bacalhau” is a brand from the Aveiro region, belonging to the company Rui Costa e Sousa & Irmão. Its codfish is prepared from the time of capture, which takes place between February and April, until Christmas. Subsequently, this ensures availability to meet seasonal demand. In Norway, the company employs a pioneering strategy of vertical integration within the codfish production chain. According to the company, “Sr. Bacalhau” owns two factories in Norway, initiating the production process there.

The Olive Oil

Ourogal Centenarium is an olive oil made from the Galega variety. It is known for its highly complex aroma, highlighting notes of apple and green almonds. Moreover, its flavour is persistent over time, robust yet elegant. The first extraction is carried out cold (within a maximum of 4 hours). Finally, the oil has a maximum acidity of 0.3%.

This olive oil, produced from olive trees over 400 years old, is recognised by top chefs and global competitions. Among these are the AVPA-Product Gourmet (Paris), Mezquita (Cordoba), and Mario Solinas (Madrid). The careful selection of olives is carried out using traditional, hand-harvesting methods. Eventually, the fruit is transformed into olive oil, which naturally flows into stainless steel tanks. Therefore, his method ensures the chemical and organoleptic stability of this nectar.

Small Gestures, Big Support!

In sum, the raised funds will go entirely towards supporting a pre-selected family left homeless by the fires in Aveiro.

The fires that affected the Aveiro district in September 2024 caused losses of €30 million. At this time, around 8,800 hectares of forest were burned. The fires, which had consequences for countless families, caused €8.9 million worth of damage to homes.

Furthermore, a large share of the losses is related to damage to municipal infrastructure and agriculture. Economic activities (tourism, industry, commerce, and services) were also heavily impacted.
